The Perfect Christmas Ham!

Hey there COOK-ies!

Chef J. LeAnn here!

December has arrived and it is almost time for Christmas (where has time gone?)

Presents under the tree, chestnuts roasting on an open fire (no copyright infringement intended), freshly fallen snow, and the warmth of the holiday season.

Everyone patiently waiting for the 25th, eager to get the presents but also eager to get down the most important part of Christmas: Christmas Dinner. The dinner that's stacked with turkey, stuffing and all the other amazing dishes you love to enjoy! But one of best dishes at my holiday supper, is a great Christmas Ham!

Today, I am going to share one of my favorite recipes for an incredible ham that will please all of your holiday guests this Christmas!

The Perfect Christmas Ham

Christmas ham recipe

(This picture is for inspiration purposes only.)

What You Need:

  • 1 10-12 lbs Bone-in Ham

For Honey Glaze:

  • 1 cup of Honey
  • 1/2 cup of light brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp of lemon or lime juice
  • 1 1/2 tsp of Paprika
  • 2 tbsp of Honey Mustard
  • 1 tbsp water

To Cook:

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F.
  2. Combine all of the ingredients for the Honey glaze, and bring to a simmer on medium to low heat, careful not to crystallize the sugars and burn it. Add a bit more water if it is too thick. Adjust the mustard, paprika, or lemon/lime juice as needed (It should taste a little bit of sweet and tangy, but trust me, it will be great on the ham!)
  3. Score the top of the ham. This will allow the heat and the glaze to get through to the middle of the ham.
  4. Spread a thin layer of the honey glaze on the ham, and place in the oven.
  5. Cook the ham for an hour covered with foil.
  6. Take the ham out, and brush the remaining honey glaze over the ham, along with the drippings from the pan, and cook for 45 minutes uncovered.
  7. Serve!

Chef's Notes:

For calculating baking times for hams, I suggest about 10 minutes per pound. That's why in this recipe, our ham cooks for almost 2 hours. (10 or 12 lbs x 10 minutes = approx. 100 or 120 minutes = about 1 hour 40 minutes to 2 hours.)
Fully cooked and ready-to-eat hams can be eaten warmed or cold, no matter if it is spiral cut, bone-in, or boneless.

I hope you all enjoy this recipe and keep it to use for all your winter holiday meals!
